Creating my CV

When creating my CV I firstly thought about my layout/design, I wanted to make sure that my CV was split up and not just one big block of text, I wanted to make it a bit easier to read. My CV is very simple, I haven’t added much graphics or colour to it, as for now I just want to make sure I have all the correct information on, and not make it too distracting, and for the fact I wouldn’t do a very good job of making it more punchy and graphic like. I decided to add the basic logo that I have made, at the moment I don’t know if I will keep the logo to that design, but for the moment, it colours work with my website, and so does the CV. I decided to have the logo and my contact details at the top, as a header, just so they are clear and easy to find. I then did headings, Personal profile, Technical skill, experience, exhibitions and educations. I chose them in the order of level of importance, the personal statement first in the hope it makes them want to read on and not just chuck it in the bin. I found writing my personal statement the hardest, I find it very hard to talk about my self, especially trying to promote/sell my self. I am worried that it could sound cocky, but if I don’t try and sell my self enough, then I may sound uninteresting.  I chose to add two important bits of information under my personal profile, but at the moment I am not 100% sure whether they should stay there, or just add them on the end of my CV.  My CV does feel quite empty at the moment, but hopefully with time my experience section will hopefully fill up, as well as exhibitions or publications. I also hope to improve with time my technical skills section, and find out which bits of information are important to include, and which aren’t necessary. I do think my CV could look more interesting, to perhaps grab the readers eye but right now I don’t know how to do that well enough, without it looking a disaster.

After correcting some spelling mistakes, and adding my personal statement my CV is close to being finished. It is very important to triple check spelling on InDesign as there is no automatic spell check! I found it quite difficult to write about my self for my personal statement/profile, I think depending on what job I was submitting my CV for, I would alter my personal statement to have the relevant information for the job. At this moment in time, I have been quite general with what I like to do, and haven’t really included any skills as it is hard to adapt it when I haven’t got a specific job in mind. I need to practice my wording of talking about my self and I need to establish what type of photographer I am, and what I want to people to know about me and my work. At the moment my personal statement is quite boring and is unlikely that it would keep someones attention.
